The school held a Life-wide Learning (LWL) week from March 27 to March 31, aiming to create opportunities for students to learn through experience and to address the school's major concern on developing students' self-learning and creative problem-solving abilities through inquiry-based learning (IBL).
This event included field trips, workshop experiences, cross-border visits, and thematic studies, aimed at helping students broaden their horizons and achieve holistic development in an ever-changing society, as well as fostering lifelong learning capabilities.
Through careful planning across different forms, the activities created five learning experiences, encompassing intellectual development, values education, social service, physical and artistic development, and work-related experiences.
Secondary One: Creative Thinking and Technology Design
In Secondary One, students engaged in inquiry-based learning through technology-related workshops, applying technological knowledge, mathematical modeling, and design thinking. They not only learned how technology improves daily life but also how to propose creative solutions to social problems, stimulating their creative thinking.
Secondary Two: Mainland Exchange Programme for Junior Secondary students
All students participated in a Mainland Exchange Programme focusing on the Maritime Silk Road in Yangjiang and heritage conservation in Kaiping, gaining insights into the country's history, culture, economic development, and efforts in heritage preservation. During the visits and exchanges, students conducted thematic studies, exploring the cultural characteristics and preservation of Kaiping Diaolou (watchtowers) and the ancient town of Chikan, the historical development of China's Maritime Silk Road, as well as the challenges and achievements in underwater archaeology.
Secondary Three: Subject Thematic Enquiry Study
Secondary three students conducted group thematic enquiry studies across different subjects, including Physics, Biology, Chemistry, History, and Economics. After taking part in local visits and cross-border visits, students established subject themes for group studies and presentations. The itinerary included visits to the Zhuhai Ai Fei Ke Aerospace Education Base, the South China Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Guangdong Science Center to understand China's scientific and technological development. They also conducted field studies at Hong Kong's Sneaker Street, Goldfish Street, and the Shenzhen Sungang Wholesale Market to explore the practical application of economic theories in daily life, as well as visiting Ap Lei Chau and Tai O to learn about local fishing village culture and the preservation of traditional culture.
Secondary Four: Service Learning
Promoting the core values of "Caring for the Elderly and Intergenerational Inclusion," students engaged in experiential learning to gain a deeper understanding of the needs of the elderly. They personally interacted with and served the elderly in the community, enhancing their sense of community care and self-identity, giving back to the community, and addressing the social issue of aging population. Students participated in service learning in groups, practicing and enhancing their communication, collaboration, problem-solving, leadership, and innovation skills, while also strengthening their empathy.
Secondary Five: Career Planning — "Exploring Youth Career Development in the Greater Bay Area (Huizhou)"
All Secondary Five students participated in a career development exploration trip to Huizhou, visiting the Huizhou Hong Kong-Macau Youth Innovation Base, the China-Korea Industrial Park, the China Telecom 5G Experience Center, and Zhouming Technology. They not only learned about the development prospects of various innovative industries in the Greater Bay Area but also examined the support measures for youth employment and entrepreneurship in the region, gaining a clearer understanding of their own development opportunities and refining their career plans.
Through these diverse learning experiences, students gained rich knowledge and skills during the Life-wide Learning week, laying a solid foundation for their future learning and life.
