Professor Professor HUI Ho Lam from the School of Life Sciences at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has launched the research project “Earth BioGenome Project Hong Kong: Butterflies and the Next Generation of Scientists,” which has received HK$7.9 million in funding from the Research Grants Council (RGC) under the 2024/25 Research Impact Fund (RIF). The team will collaborate with the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) of the Hong Kong Government, Fung Yuen Butterfly Reserve, and seven other local universities to conduct research on butterfly life sciences. Students from CUHK are also fortunate to participate in this initiative.
Our school's Campus Conservation Ambassadors are involved in butterfly monitoring programs to understand the evolution of butterfly diversity under climate change and to uncover biological knowledge that contributes to Hong Kong’s technological development.
Recently, Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) filmed an episode of “Hong Kong Stories: Innovation Factory 2” on campus, documenting how CCH students, under Professor Xu’s guidance, explore butterfly ecology. For more details, please refer to the link:
