The ultimate goal of the foundation is to promote education and nurture abilities of young people. It is obligated in promoting foundation education and developing young people’s abilities and talents for the benefits of the society. For many years, with this mission in their hearts, the board members have been working hard and by all means. Under the support of alumni of CUHK and prominent community leaders, the foundation has established, one by one, two secondary schools (CUHKFAA Thomas Cheung Secondary School in Tin Shui Wai, Yuen Long and CUHKFAA Chan Chun Ha Secondary School (our school)), one primary school (CUHKFAA Thomas Cheung School) and three kindergartens (CUHKFAA Thomas Cheung Kindergarten in Ma On Shan, Shatin; CUHKFAA Chan Chun Ha Kindergarten in Tin Shui Wai, Yuen Long; and CUHKFAA Shun Lung Yan Chak Kindergarten in Tin Shui Wai, Yuen Long).
The daily management of the schools is supervised by respective school boards, formed by the representatives assigned by the foundation board. Currently, with the kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools quite well developed, the objective of “developing education; serving the community” has been primarily fulfilled. The board members would not see this achievement as the time to unwind but will keep striving for the further development of education in the community.
Apart from her work in the territory, the foundation board set up the “Development Foundation for Education in China” in 1995, aiming to support education in the mainland. The board also mobilized alumni volunteers of CUHK to share their professional knowledge and experience with our fellow education practitioners in the mainland. This foundation is managed by a “select committee” assigned by the board. Under this foundation, “Xiao Bian Dan” (“Baby Bamboo Operation”) started in 1996 and has since then been supporting general education in underprivileged villages in the mainland with the funds she has raised.
