CCH Visual Arts and Home Economics Win 1st Runner-up and Best Creativity Award in Hong Kong Qun Gua Design Competition

Our school recently took part in the Secondary School New Chinese Qun Gua Design Competition and achieved fantastic results. This meaningful event was co-organized by the Education Bureau, the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), and Sir Ellis Kadoorie Secondary School (West Kowloon).

The entry, titled "The Bliss of Twin Butterflies" (《幸福雙棲蝶》) is co-designed by Yu Tin Ka (4A) and Poon Kelley (4A), stood out among many exceptional works from over 40 secondary schools across Hong Kong. The piece won the Territory-wide 1st Runner-up along with a special Best Creativity Award.

During the four-month preparation period, the two students worked hard to transform their ideas on paper into reality, hand-stitching the gown needle by needle. On the day of the grand final, their work was presented in a live catwalk show by professional models at HKDI. While respecting the cultural heritage of traditional dragon and phoenix wedding gowns, the design also carries our students' wishes for modern women to courageously pursue their dreams and live a fulfilling life after marriage.

On top of that, their work has been selected for a 10-year collection by the HKDI Fashion Archive, and the students have been invited to participate in the upcoming Joint-school Grand Gala. During the event, Tin Ka and Kelley also had the great opportunity to be interviewed by the media, where they confidently shared their design journey.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported us. In the online public voting in early May, the artwork received over 300 votes. We are incredibly thankful to the public and our school community—your warmth and encouragement really backed our students up as they stepped onto this big stage.

Congratulations to Yu Tin Ka, Poon Kelley, and the dedicated teacher advisory team from both the Visual Arts and Home Economics Department! This interdisciplinary project shows our school's ongoing commitment to cultural inheritance, creative thinking, and practical learning. We hope all CCH students will keep exploring their creative potential and keep up the great work in their future endeavors. Advising Teachers: Ms. Ng Ching Man, Ms. Chiu May Wai
