On April, 5 students from the English Drama Club participated in the Speak Up – Act Out Drama Competition 2023/24 organized by the Native-speaking English Teacher (NET) Section, Curriculum Development Institute (CDI), Education Bureau. They won 3rd place and the Audience's Choice Award. The entire competition, from receiving the play theme to script-writing and rehearsals, was completed in just two short weeks. During this period, the teachers and participating students racked their brains, unleashed their creativity, and created a refreshing script for a play set in Central, Hong Kong. Through the rehearsal process, they constantly refined the script and polished their performance skills. Ultimately, they stood out from the many participating teams and won the prestigious awards. Here are the award-winning students and their experience sharing:
After joining this drama competition, I learned the importance of team spirit. When we were performing, most of us forgot our lines because we were very nervous. When any one of us forgot our lines, everyone would react very quickly and pick up on what has been said. Without each other's help and improvisation, we could not have finished the competition. The second thing I have learnt in this competition is that I have become more confident. This was the first time I performed English Drama in front of so many people. At first, I was a bit shy. With the encouragement of our teachers and teammates, I have become more confident.
This competition is very challenging for me as it was my first time performing on a stage. The first challenge I had was the pronunciation of the words. The second challenge I had was how to be more expressive. At first, I was quite disappointed in myself but Ms Lau, Ms Chong and my teammates kept teaching and encouraging me. After numerous practice sessions, I could really see my improvement.
